Lunch run turned action run.
Thief Chased Down by Philadelphia Running Group
The lunch run is valued by all who can get out for a few relaxing miles to cleave up the day. That was the goal for the Annenberg (Lunchtime) Running Group last month—until they had to spring into action.
A man sprinted at a rapid pace when group members Kyle Cassidy, Natalie Herbert, and Samantha Oliver were waiting for one more member to join their midday run. It caught their attention.
A man sprinted before the group and they were impressed with his speed.
According to Cassidy, a man sprinted before them, probably running a 7:15 pace. The group was impressed by his speed.
However, they quickly realized why the man, Talib Adams, moved with such haste.
Without hesitation, they ran after the man.
They heard another man yelling, asking for help. Talib took his phone and laptop. Without hesitation, they ran after the man.
The group split up. Cassidy went around the far side of the construction site to cut off the thief, a full city block around.
Herbert and Oliver waited a bit before doing some canvassing in the neighborhood. They found one with a high fence that appeared a prime place for dumping the criminal’s loot.
The chase came to an end as the suspect ran right into the path of the police officers.
The criminal took off from his hiding place in the bushes out front. Unfortunately, Cassidy had a torn calf muscle while attempting to chase the subject.
Soon after, the chase quickly came to an end as the suspect ran right into the path of responding University of Pennsylvania police officers. They detained the man. Later Cassidy was treated for his injury at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.
They want to remind everyone to always put your safety first.
The group was proud of their heroic efforts but decided to think ahead as it was not something they would recommend again because they should have taken into consideration their safety.
The Annenberg Running Group has continued its runs since, and Cassidy has recovered from his injury. The group gathers for midday runs and welcomes anyone who wants to join them. They work to hold each other liable, so everyone gets out for their races.
