Texas Residents Rebuild World War II Vet's Home Hit By Harvey For 100th Birthday

A Veteran of World War II who served in Europe now faces a new challenge in life, after his Houston home was flooded by Tropical Storm Harvey's devastating onslaught.

99-year old Bill Fly bought the house with his wife in 1972. Since they never experienced a flood before, he didn't have flood insurance. All his possessions are now wringing wet garbage.
He said, “It’s hard to realize that used to be in my house.”

 Bill and his wife lived in their house since 1972.

Bill’s wife, Mary Beth, passed away three months ago, and now, he suffered another loss when Harvey's floodwaters destroyed everything -- all his possessions including his wife’s photos and letters plus did water damage to the entire house.

A group of volunteers, Texas residents, including the man behind the book and movie “Lone Survivor" former Navy Seal Mark Luttrell, are working to get Bill Fly back into his home in time for his upcoming 100th Birthday on November 1.

Luttrell's wife, Melanie, created a fundraising drive to help the World War II vet rebuild his home and help him start a new life. The goal is to reach $75,000, but it topped $80,000 as of Thursday morning. She said the extra money raised from the drive would be used to help other war veterans affected by Harvey's deluge.
