Steven Tyler funds Janie's House for abused girls
Second Home for Abused Women Opened by Steven Tyler
Aerosmith frontman, Steven Tyler, donated half-million dollars to renovate a home in Memphis. He took it from his charity, Janie's Fund, a home for abused children. According to WHJL, Janie's house; was named after Aerosmith’s 1989 hit song Janie’s Got A Gun - A song about a girl who was mistreated by her family.
Early this year, Steven opened a shelter for 14 girls.
Steven attended the opening of the home for a 'scarf-cutting' ceremony earlier this year. The house will shelter 14 girls at a time and provide them with the therapy they need to lead healthier and happier lives. Tyler said, “This does my heart and my soul good." He also provided artwork for the facility to help the girls cope with emotional, behavioral, and mental problems.
Tyler has met a lot of girls that were abused
According to Tyler, at least 90 percent of the girls that he met while in treatment had been abused either physically, mentally, verbally. That is when he realized his hit song had real meaning.
Tyler started Janie's fund in late 2015.
One of the survivors, JaBrayia, shared how a loving, nourishing home that offers therapy can make all the difference. She was abused starting at the age of three, and she is now living in Janie's House.
Tyler started Janie's fund in late 2015. He opened his first home in Atlanta in 2017 and now in Memphis.
Tyler will be focusing on helping survivors in their recovery.
For him, it is a dream come true. Janie’s Fund has raised about $4-million. “We wouldn’t be here at all if it weren’t for Steven and his dream of Janie’s Fund,” Patrick Lawler, CEO of Youth Villages, said at the grand opening, according to KDVR.
Tyler will be focusing on helping survivors in their recovery. “I’m gonna bring this Janie’s Fund with me wherever I go,” he said.
