Heather Mitchell, an Alabama portrait photographer, was hit with the inspiration to create a photo series that shows young girls dressed simultaneously as athletes and princesses while chatting with the other moms at her eight-year-old daughter's softball practice recently.
Mitchell created a series that show girls being girly and athletic
Mitchell told TODAY Parents that one of the moms told her that her daughter, Paislee, is not athletic and that she was very girly. She couldn't sleep that night.
Right then, she was inspired to create a series of photos that show young girls being both things. She remembers wearing lipstick while playing sports.
Girls can be anything when they grow up
For Mitchell, her daughters do not have to choose. They can be anything they wanted when they grow up.
After her sleepless night, Mitchell took her daughter into her photography studio and took a few photos of the eight-year-old dressed in princess dresses and tiaras while modeling with softball gear.
Mitchell’s photoshoot have gone viral
After posting the photos of her daughter on Facebook, other members of her community asked for similar shoots. Her stunning images have gone viral, something she hopes will send a powerful message to young girls.
Mitchell says her photos are about educating girls. They do not have to decide between playing sports and being feminine.
Due to the high interest for her artistic photo sessions, Mitchell will offer more to clients in the coming weeks
Mitchell says she hopes the images send a clear message to young girls everywhere.
"I hope that every little girl that sees this series can see that there is no box," said Mitchell. "Whatever their dreams are, they can achieve them."
