Julia "Hurricane" Hawkins: The 101-Year-Old Runner Who Breaks the 100-meter Dash Record

Julia "Hurricane" Hawkins, the 101-year-old runner, completed 40.12 seconds at the USA Track and Field Masters Outdoor Championships at Louisiana State University, breaking a world record history for her age group in a 100-meter dash. She also clocked 39.62 seconds in an event last month.

She was born on the year 1916 in Wisconsin

Julia also competed in a cycling event for seniors before joining the sprinting competition. She said that it was her children who urged her to join the said competition.

Medals she received since she started competing

According to Julia, "At this age, you're not getting better. You're getting worse. You only have so many 100-yard dashes left. You have to save them."

She also dedicated her time on being a cyclist.

Spending time with her family, having a proper diet, and daily exercise makes her livelier and healthier lifestyle.

Julia begun running at a young age of 10 years old.

"I missed my nap for this," explaining she always knew she could run fast from having to race into her house from outside to answer the phone.

You are such an amazing and inspiring athlete, Julia. Way to go!

“He who is of a calm and happy nature will hardly feel the pressure of age, but to him who is of an opposite disposition, youth and age are equally a burden.”
