Instacart Shopper Loses Weight, Credits the Job.

A man from Chicago made a change when he realized he is stuck in an office job, feeling tight in his size 5XL T-shirt.

Antonio Martinez, a 30-year-old quit his day job, got a job as a grocery shopper for Instacart and thanks to that decision with helping him lose nearly 300 pounds over the last five years.

What helped him lose weight is that when he delivers the customer's grocery order.

According to Martinez, what helped him lose weight is that when he delivers the customer's grocery order and find him/her fit, he would wonder what these people eat, and it helped him learn a cleaner lifestyle just by mirroring what people ordered.

He grew up on a Mexican diet of beans and rice and bread and associated those foods with comfort and love.  He gained weight during his high school days and lost track when he got an office job that required him to sit at a desk all day.

He began to look at what he was eating compared to what people were ordering via Instacart.

"I would just wake up, eat, go to work, snack all day and go home tired," he said. "At one point, I remember I tried to weigh myself, and the scaled was maxed out at 420 pounds, and it didn't register my weight."

He decided to give Instacart a try when he saw an ad, and they were looking for paid shoppers. It was a part-time job at first, but when he started seeing non-scale victories, he deiced to go full time and quit his office job.  The position requires a lot of walking, going up the stairs.

He knew that the activity alone wouldn't be enough to lose weight, so he decided to change his diet. He began to look at what he was eating compared to what people were ordering via Instacart.

What inspired him the most was when he found out he has a daughter on the way.

What inspired him the most was when he found out he has a daughter on the way. He committed to the keto diet and after a "brutal" first month, began seeing changes.

He also began getting promotions at Instacart, while he was losing weight over the past five years. He is now a site manager for the California-based company.

Don't start tomorrow, or you'll talk yourself out of it.

When it comes to advising for other people who want to change their lives, Martinez said he learned not to think setting big goals was "too daunting." Shoot big and to start today. Don't start tomorrow, or you'll talk yourself out of it.

“It's all a matter of paying attention, being awake in the present moment, and not expecting a huge payoff. The magic in this world seems to work in whispers and small kindnesses.”
