Getting up to be ready for school is quite a challenge. When students are late for class, they are reprimanded by their teachers or be asked to join detention. However, this young Texas boy was excused for his tardiness. When netizens read his story and learned what held him up, they admired him!

Royce Woodrow Thompson

5-year-old Royce Woodrow Thompson already late for his class, ran for the front doors of Roy J. Wollam Elementary School after his mom, Heather, had given him a ride to school. However, Royce suddenly stopped right outside the doors and bowed his head as if for a moment of silence. Heather wondered what her son was doing and urged him to get to class, but he wouldn’t do so.

It turned out, Royce had heard the children inside the school reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and had stopped in his tracks to do likewise, ignoring other late students rushing by him to get to class.

Royce stopped to say the “Pledge of Allegiance.”

Heather had thought her son was giving her an attitude until a police officer nearby praised the young man.

“I was like, ‘Royce! Go, go, you’re going to be late!’ It looked like he was looking at his shoes, and I was like, ‘That’s not like Royce. He’s not the type to have an attitude,’” Heather said.

She didn’t hear the intercom because there are two other kids in the back and then the officer stopped Heather and said lightly, ‘He’s good. He just said the pledge of allegiance." Once mom caught on, she was not surprised. “He always does the right thing. He’s so awesome,” she explained.

Cop saw what Royce did and explained to his mom.

She quickly snapped a photo of Royce and, later, uploaded it to her Facebook page (though not available now). Her post went viral, and many Facebook users commended Royce for his respect and patriotism. The post received nearly 2 million comments and shares.

“There’s so much doubt in the world right now about love for our country and God and it’s so awesome to see that there’s still so many fans of it all,” said Heather. “All of these people are loving him respecting God and the flag, and it’s nice to know they’re on our team.”

Fortunately, no penalty for Royce.

“Patriotism is supporting your country all the time and your government when it deserves it.”
