This non-profit sends free pizza to voters waiting in long lines on election day.
Voters Had a Pizza Treat from Fellow Americans
To show love and respect for our country, people exercise their right to vote for their chosen politician and political party.
And recently, Americans showed how much they cared about the elections this year, by voting and pizza!
Free pizza to all - Pizza to the Polls
Nonprofit organization "Pizza to the Polls" raised more than $376,000, and sent out more than 10,000 pizza pies, to polling stations across the country to give out to the voters.
The organization used "Slice", a pizza delivery app, to find a pizza store near the busy polling stations with either, long lines and or having had technical difficulties on this past election day.
Busy polling center.
Pizza to the Polls sent out a total of 9,982 pizza pies to 576 polling stations across 43 states. Although, they had not used all the money, and still had more than $154,000 remaining. Whatever money was not used on election night goes toward feeding hungry Americans voting or marching in the future, according to their site.
Generous citizens and celebrities alike have donated money to the cause, just one more way to encourage their fellow Americans to vote in the midterm elections.
PTTP is an all-volunteer, non-profit operation.
Pizza may not seem like much of a worthy cause, but it helps keep potential voters from leaving long lines due to hunger and boredom. Voters faced a few hurdles in this year's election. Some lines were extremely long due to malfunctioning polling machines or so few machines available in certain areas.
PTTP has sent more than 10,000 boxes of pizzas all over America.
Thanks to Pizza to the Polls, voters have not only contributed to the future of our country but left the polling stations with a smile.
“If we stretch ourselves to open our minds, to see our shared humanity with others, we allow ourselves to see the existence of community and generosity in unexpected places.”
