"Tiny Home" Project for Homeless Veterans
"Tiny Home" Project for Homeless Veterans
Homeless veterans in Kansas City are given "tiny homes" built by The Veterans Community Project. Their aim is to provide accommodation for veterans who are unemployed, with poor mental health, and those without a home so they can get back on their feet and integrate back into society. So far, the project has built 13 homes.
The people behind the project knew that the ex-servicemen and women needed a boost from members of their own community. They deserve a warm, safe place to live, although not big, these houses are enough to provide much-needed shelter.
What do the veterans get?
What do the veterans get?
Considering that the project is still in its early stages, it has already offered few homes. The community consists of four family homes, nine single homes, and a center is in the works.
This care and support will give the veterans a chance for a better future.
The project leaders also kept in mind that these veterans do not only need shelter, but also activities such as cooking classes, financial and lifestyle advice, and support for overcoming substance abuse which will allow them to get back on their feet. It will also teach them to look after themselves and someday, find a bigger apartment or even a house of their own and start living their own lives again.
This care and support will give the veterans a chance for a better future. If not for this project, some veterans might end up in prison and then have prolonged difficulty finding work or even struggle to overcome addiction to alcohol or drugs.
Next Steps
Next Steps
The Veterans Community Project aims to reduce the number of homeless servicemen and women for good. In fact, Phase two of their project involves building an additional 19 homes. As the ribbons were cut for the project’s first 13 homes and the long-awaited power lines were turned on, the village really sprang into life and started to come together. It was very emotional to see that the project’s work was laid bare for all to see.
This project is truly remarkable. It is giving life to many deserving men and women. They risked their lives to maintain peace in the country and it's about time we give back for their service.
