Man Bought a Bus to Rescue Animals Affected by Hurricane Florence

Residents in South Carolina were preparing to evacuate ahead before the arrival of Hurricane Florence early last month.

But one man has other plans.

Tony Alsup from Tennessee has been planning to do a heroic act.

A Noah’s Ark school bus owned by Tony Alsup.

Tony purchased an old school bus to help save the precious lives of animals who'd probably be left behind once the storm rages.

He is a volunteer in EARS - Emergency Animal Rescue and Shelter, and had already used the same school bus to evacuate pets from Texas during Hurricane Harvey in 2017. So when he learned that animal shelters in South Carolina needed a hand, he stepped in once again to help.

Tony transports the animals to safety.

“I’m like, look, these are lives too. Animals — especially shelter pets — they always have to take the back seat of the bus. But I’ll give them their own bus. If I have to I’ll pay for all the fuel, or even a boat, to get these dogs out of there," Alsup said.

Prior to Florence's arrival, Alsup drove several South Carolina shelters and loaded the school bus with needy pets.

Tony is a hero for the animals he saved.

He has collected 53 dogs and 11 cats.

From there, Alsup delivered the pets to a rescue facility in Foley, Alabama, where they'll eventually be transferred to other animal shelters across the country — and hopefully, adopted and have their forever homes.

Not all heroes wear capes - and this one needs our help!

Thanks to Tony for saving these animals from Hurricane Florence's fury. These furry friends will be forever grateful and will have their second chance to have a lovable forever home.

“A dog is like a person—he needs a job and a family to be what he’s meant to be.”
