Iceland's Stunning Ice Horses

Combination of snow and a large land of ice have always possessed a mystical quality, an absolute majestic scenery one could ever see. 

And one lucky professional photographer experienced and shared it to the world.

The Realm of Legends

New York City-based photographer and filmmaker Drew Doggett, managed to capture a sliver of this magic in his new photo series, called "In the Realm of Legends", where he highlighted “the unique relationship between this land and the horses.”

It was Doggett's first time to visit Iceland, he was captivated by its beauty.

Doggett likes to photograph in ‘near-impossible’ locations.

Jules Verne’s Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea inspired Doggett to do his incredible artwork. It was one of the many books he kept on reading since he was little. He wanted to have a great adventure on his own one day he explained.

Capturing fantasy tales on film is not easy. The photographer said he spent months planning the two-week shoot but was met with several challenges.

For the photographer, the biggest challenge was the unpredictable weather.

Other than the obvious challenges of documenting especially wild animals, the unpredictable weather in Iceland was the most challenging for Doggett.

Running free

He had to make the best of every single opportunity because it wouldn’t be long before the rain fell or the wind picked up to the point of them and with that, they needed to find shelter asap.

With all effort and hardwork on artwork, he said he hopes his viewers walk away with feelings of ‘collective nostalgia, inspiration, and fantasy.

“Often we don’t see the majesty of God’s design because we’re caught up in the mediocrity of our own designs.”
