High School Student Saved Money to Buy his Best Friend a New Wheelchair
In a world with so much hatred, it is always reassuring to hear stories
about the goodwill of others that restores our faith in humanity and Tanner Wilson is one of these people.
Tanner and best friend, Brandon Qualls
Tanner is a high school student at Caddo Hills High School in Norman, Arkansas. He has a best friend, Brandon Qualls, who has a disability and he uses a wheelchair every day. However, his manual chair would leave him aching and tired after and between classes, which had been affecting his performance.
Tanner realized Brandon's struggles so he came up with a solution.
Tanner realized Brandon's struggles so he came up with a solution. He started saving money from his part-time job to buy his best friend a new wheelchair that will make him more comfortable.
After two years, Tanner had saved enough money to buy the electric set of wheels. When he surprised his best friend at school, Brandon was crying. He couldn't believe Tanner would do that for him.
Tanner kept silent and humble
Throughout the journey, Tanner kept silent and humble. When asked by people, he would just simply say that that Brandon is a really good friend that he deserves help.
Brandon can now zoom about the hallways in comfort. His electric chair is equipped with buttons and a motor, so his arms aren’t the only thing he uses to propel himself. But more than anything, he is thankful that he has an amazing best friend like Tanner.
“A friend is one to whom one may pour out the contents of one’s heart, chaff and grain together, knowing that gentle hands will take and sift it, keep what is worth keeping, and with a breath of kindness, blow the rest away.”
- George Eliot
