'Gypsy King' to Donate £8 Million to the Poor and Homeless from Deontay Wilder Fight
Following personal battles with depression, alcohol, and drug misuse, the 30-year-old heavyweight, Tyson Fury, almost had the perfect comeback in Los Angeles against Deontay Wilder, however, it was taken away from him due to, what was considered by many as a dubious tied scorecard from the judges.
Winner in a different way
Regardless that he did not claim his victory upon his comeback in the ring, he can be considered as a winner in a different way.
Having shed 10 stones (140lbs) in preparation for the fight and having shaken suicidal thoughts, the 'Gypsy King' is now intent on helping others overcome their battles.
£8 million donation for the poor and homeless
The father and husband is expected to bring home around £8 million ($10 million) from his fight with Wilder, but he reportedly intends to give all of it helping the poor and homeless.
According to the Mirror, he is going to give the money to the poor and build homes for the homeless.
Help out people who can't help themselves
"I don't really have much use for it, I'm not interested in becoming a millionaire or a billionaire. I'm a boxer, not a businessman and I'll probably go down the same route as every other boxer - skint at the end of it all.
"You can't take it with you, so I might as well do something with it and help out people who can't help themselves."
Fury was very emotional during his speech after the fight. He said: "It's an iconic comeback, isn't it? After two-and-a-half years out the ring, ten stone ballooned, mental health problems."
"You know the truth. Everybody knows I won that fight.
"I just showed the world tonight, and everyone suffering with mental health problems, you can come back, and it can be done. Everybody out there who has the same problems I've been suffering with, I did that for you guys."
He continued: "You know the truth. Everybody knows I won that fight.
"And if I can come back from where I've come from then you can do it too. So, get up, get over it and let's do it. Seek help, and let's do it together as a team. I did it for you guys."
