Conway's Refrigerator Pantry Open 24/7 to Feed People.
Salem United Methodist Church in Conway opened up a food ministry available to anyone 24/7, and it's been two years since they started.
It has been estimated that about 40 percent of food in the United States goes to waste because it never gets eaten, while one out of six Americans is food-insecure (National Resources Defense Council, 2012) the church in Conway has made a change to its community.
Pastor Todd Vick said that it is hard to keep the Sharing Fridge full because they are constantly moving food through there.
Pastor Todd Vick said that it is hard to keep the Sharing Fridge full because they are constantly moving food through there. The fridge is located right outside the church doors.
According to Pastor Vick, people are in shock that they do not have to show ID or anything to get food from the pantry anytime they need it. They are also getting support from other ministry volunteers who work extra hours saving all of their leftovers to keep the fridge fully stocked. They also ask for help from local restaurants and individuals. They get left-overs from Harps, Chick-Fil-A, Little Caesars and more.
When their stocks are low, they get creative.
When their stocks are low, they get creative. Volunteer Diana Arms and the group decided to find recipes using the available canned goods in the storage unit to make full meals for the fridge.
Pastor Vick would love to partner with other churches in Conway so they could expand and extend their help to other cities and create more Sharing Fridges across central Arkansas.
The fridge is located at 1018 Salem Rd., Conway.
