Recycled Island Foundation made a floating park in Rotterdam.
Amazing Floating Park Made of Recycled Plastic
In order to conserve and save nature from destruction, global warming and pollution, people need to act now. And one solution to this problem is recycling.
One example is this eco-friendly park.
In Rotterdam, a floating park in the Maas River is showing just what can be created from plastic waste.
Each hexagon is filled with earth soil, allowing vegetation to grow.

With the incredible idea and initiative of Recycled Island Foundation, they collected plastic from the river and ports and transformed them into 1,500 square feet of floating habitat that will give back to the ecosystem.
Plastic collected has been transformed into 1,500 square feet of floating habitat.
The foundation developed floating litter traps that ensnared the river trash over the course of 1.5 years, which was then sorted and recycled. The recycled plastic was molded into 28 hexagonal blocks that link together to form the Recycled Park.
Each hexagon is filled with earth soil, allowing plants and crops to grow. Numbers of birds, fishes, and microorganisms also benefit from a new food source, as well as new breeding ground and shelter.
This park also houses wild animals.
By retrieving plastics directly in different cities and ports they actively prevent the further growth of the water pollution and thrash in seas and oceans. Ramon Knoester, creator of the Foundation shared that "the realization of the building blocks in recycled plastics is an important step towards a litter-free river.”
The opening of Recycled Park is a triumph for the newbie organization, which spent the last 5 years designing, researching, fundraising, and involving stakeholders in the project. Now, they are continuing on their quest to get rid of plastics in the river and searching for new locations to expand their concept.

Good job Recycled Island Foundation! Let's hope that others will follow their good example.
