A Special Birthday Treat to a Special Boy.
A Special Birthday Treat to a Special Boy.
Chick-fil-A is a chain restaurant founded by Truett Cathy. It is known for its Christian values that is why it never opens on Sundays for the employees to have a day of rest and worship. There is, however, one store in Alabama that has broken the tradition to open on a Sunday for a boy.
It was Elijah Sprague's birthday
It was Elijah Sprague's birthday. Elijah is a 14-year old with special needs and he dreams of working in a drive-through someday. His parent wanted to make his dream come true. Fortunately, his uncle is a manager at their local Chick-fil-A.
Uncertain that the owner of the store would approve of their plans for Elijah's birthday, his uncle reached out and the owner said yes immediately, without a doubt.
Chick-fil-A opened on Sunday
Come his birthday, the local Chick-fil-A opened on Sunday. Elijah sat at the drive-through window and the staff baked cookies for him to hand out to people. Approximately 40 cars of people he knew came. He knew every single person who came through, he was talking to everybody.
Elijah brings joy to his family every day
When his birthday shift was done, Elijah played inside the restaurant and ate dessert together with his friends.
Elijah was adopted by the Spragues when he was six-months-old but they were warned he would only live about a year. He was born 18 weeks premature. His mom is a nurse who worked at the NICU where he was treated as a newborn baby. 14 years on, he is proving the doctors wrong and brings joy to his family every day.
A very special day for them
For his mom, it was a very special day for them, especially to Elijah. He may not be like the other kids, but they were so happy that he got to experience that people treat and recognize him as a really cool kid. They were glad that his story has touched hearts all over the world. He may have disabilities, but he has so much to offer to the world.
“How beautiful a day can be when kindness touches it.”
- George Elliston
