The San Diego Splash Senior basketball players
80-Year-Old Female Basketball Players
Who says 80-year olds can no longer run, walk and play sports like young people can do?
Meet The San Diego Splash Senior basketball players; a team consists of 50-year-old plus senior women. Though the Splash may be the oldest team in the San Diego Senior Women's Basketball Association, their courage and determination has led them to win two National Senior League titles!
Don’t be fooled by their age and faces
Don’t be fooled by their age and faces because once they step on the court, these women come to play ball and are hungry for the win.
Two of the players, Meg Skinner and Grace Larson are both 91 years old and described as Lebron and Curry of the squad.
Larson said: "I was 78 when I got my first basketball shoes, so that was a thrill. Growing up, we didn't have sports like the girls do today. We didn't have the opportunity to play."
The Splash sisters are not just about basketball. They’re about friendship, sisterhood, and family
87-year-old team member, Marge Carl said: "A lot of my childhood friends thought I was crazy at 66 to be playing basketball. They said, 'You'll break an arm; you'll break a leg. You know, I'm the only one surviving of my childhood friends. They're all gone, every one of them."
Other team members, 87-year old Fran Styles and Meg Skinner have been on the court for over 20 years. Despite having two broken wrists and four fractured fingers, Skinner returns to the gym every time with her jersey on her back. Proven that she loves basketball.
On Larson describing her team: "The Splash sisters are not just about basketball. They’re about friendship, sisterhood, and family.
"One.. two.. three. SPLASH!”
At the start of each game, the Splash sisters huddle up together, placing their hands on top of the other; and chanting, "One.. two.. three. SPLASH!”.
Thank you Splash sisters for sharing your inspiring story. And for reminding us to live our life at any age!
Please share with your friends and family.
