YouTube Stars have Raised more than 6 Million Dollars For Tree Planting

Several YouTube stars have worked together and successfully raised more than 6 million dollars to plant trees around the globe with the help of their YouTube followers.

Their goal is to raise 20 million dollars, and they were able to produce 5 million dollars in just two days.

In May 2019, Reddit challenged MrBeast or also known as Jimmy Donaldson, an American YouTuber, to plant twenty million trees after he reached 20 million subscribers on his YouTube channel by performing extravagant stunts.

Jimmy encouraged and partnered with other YouTube stars to make the #TeamTrees project. It was introduced on the 25th of October. Their goal is to raise 20 million dollars, and they were able to produce 5 million dollars in just two days.

They will start planting trees in January and they are planning to finish this project within three years.

The funds went straight to the Arbor Day Foundation; an organization mainly focus on tree planting. They will start planting trees in January and they are planning to finish this project within three years.

A lot of content creators and other social media influencers have joined the project; one of them is Jacksepticeye. He is the top YouTuber in Ireland with a total of 22.9 million subscribers. Jacksepticeye raised $153,000 by hosting an 8-hour live stream video of planting trees on the videogame called Minecraft.

According to MrBeast, he has not been that focused on the environment before, even though he contributed $100,000. He uploaded a video wherein he built a “mansion” out of cardboard boxes before setting it alight. He also said that people keep making fun of our generation for retweet activism and not doing something. For him, this has to stop. At the end of the day, 20 million trees are better than nothing, and the reason we are experiencing climate change is because of doing nothing.

Jimmy Donaldson also added that they know that 20M trees won’t fix climate change. But at the end of the day, 20 million trees are better than nothing, and the reason we are experiencing climate change is because of doing nothing.

Extinction Rebellion Youth action attacked YouTube during the two-week October protest because it showcases climate denial. Their study shows that most of the videos about the climate crisis are against the scientific consensus on the subject.
